Malic Acid & Metabolic Acidosis

چکیده

Label-MMAcid-Rev030410 BACKGROUND Ruminants are animals that have multiple stomachs to allow consumption and digestion of fibrous feedstuffs. Key to this digestive process is the bacterial breakdown of the fiber in the first stomach or rumen. The bacterial balance in the rumen can shift, allowing the ruminant to adapt to different diets. Ruminal bacteria convert fiber into lactate and volatile fatty acids (VFA: acetic, propionic, and butyric acids). Lactate and VFA are passively absorbed through the rumen and intestinal epithelium.

ROSE, DAVID M., JOSEPH DISALVO, AND SULAMITA BALAGURABARUCH. Renal glucose production in the intact dog. Am. J. Physiol. 218(6): 1676-1681. 1970.-Renal glucose production was studied in anesthetized fasting (18 hr) dogs, in various states of acid-base balance, by two procedures: a) by measuring the difference of glucose concentration in renal venous and arterial plasma, using the standard gluco...

Using organic acids to control subacute ruminal acidosis and fermentation in feedlot cattle fed a high-grain diet.

The objective of this study was to determine whether supplementing organic acids can prevent incidences of subacute ruminal acidosis (SARA) in beef heifers fed a diet consisting of 8% barley silage and 92% barley grain-based concentrate (DM basis). Ten ruminally cannulated Hereford crossbred heifers (484 ± 25 kg BW) were used in a replicated 5 × 5 Latin square design with 14-d periods including...

Influence of malic acid supplementation on ruminal pH, lactic acid utilization, and digestive function in steers fed high-concentrate finishing diets.

Two trials were conducted to evaluate the influence of malic acid supplementation on ruminal fermentation. In Trial 1, six Holstein steers (300 kg) with ruminal cannulas were used in a crossover design experiment to study the influence of malic acid (MA) on ruminal metabolism during glucose-induced lactic acidosis. Treatments consisted of a 77% steam-flaked barley-based finishing diet supplemen...

The Frequency of the Causes of Acid Base Disturbances in Patients Hospitalized in the Toxicology Ward of Baharloo Hospital in 2009

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of arterial blood gases (ABGs) in determining the type of intoxication. Methods: Medical charts of all patients who had referred to the toxicology ward of Baharloo Hospital between January 2009 and December 2009 were evaluated. After excluding the patients with multi-drug toxicity, data, including age, sex, type of intoxication ...

Experimentally-Induced Metabolic Acidosis Does not Alter Aortic Fatty Streak Formation in High-Cholesterol Fed Rabbits

Objective(s)Cardiovascular disease causes a major clinical problem in patients with end stage renal disease. Since metabolic acidosis is very common in patients with end stage renal disease, we aimed to investigate the effect of experimentally-induced metabolic acidosis on serum lipid profile and aortic fatty streak (FS) formation in normal and high-cholesterol fed rabbits.Materials and Methods...
